In the last issue, I told you about the decluttering process I had started, using the Marie Condo’s method called The Art of Decluttering.
Marie is the Japanese author that made this process popular on Netflix, in magazines, and in newspapers.
My professional organizational coach, Andrea Sharb, Kay and I started the decluttering process with my clothes. We took every piece of clothing I had anywhere in the house and laid them down on my daughter’s bed (she is away in college). I looked at each piece of clothing and asked myself if I “loved it or not.” If not, off it went into the donation pile. If I loved it, it was hung neatly back in my closet in coordinated sections or neatly folded in my drawer.
For the tough items (items that had sentimental meaning to me), I asked for advice from Kay and Andrea. The too big (thank God I lost, not gained weight) were also placed in the donation section. The very nice clothes (suit jackets, dress shirts, etc.) were hung and donated to “Dressed for Success” (a location that people go to for interview clothing and other occasions they might not be able to afford these type of clothes). The remaining clothes went to Goodwill. What a wonderful, rewarding experience this was, plus we ended up with 2 large bags of donations and 10 “interview” items.
Andrea cataloged all these items and I took pictures for tax purposes (of course). I ended up with ALL my clothes in my closet or drawers neatly prepared instead of in boxes and scattered around other closets.
Next: Dishes and cookware.
Action Step: Declutter your clothes.
