In the last issue, I told you about the decluttering of clothes process I had started, using Marie's Condo’s method called The Art of Decluttering. Marie is the Japanese author that made this process popular on Netflix, in magazines, and in newspapers. My professional organizational coach, Andrea Sharb, Kay and I started the decluttering process with clothes then went to dishes. I have often said that I have more dishes than most restaurants. After years of collecting glasses, souvenirs, and pots and pans from my mom, I finally had enough. Again, as with the clothing, every dish, pan, … [Read more...]
How Much to a Million
It always seems to be the magic number: “How do I get to a million?” Just like when we set goals for the year in my office, the yearly figure seems big, but when broken down to monthly, or even weekly, it doesn’t seem as difficult. If you plan on an 8% return on stocks and 4% return on bonds and 2% for inflation and age of 65 for your goal, you can use the following monthly figure to get you to a million: 20 years old: $306 (what you think kids?) 30 years old: $645 40 years old: $1,396 50 years old: $3,406 55 years old: $6,055 (what the heck you been doing?) Note: $1 … [Read more...]
EFDA, Glad I met ya!
I was honored to speak at the recent graduation of the CWRU EFDA program. Expanded Function Dental Auxiliaries are special assistants that, among other things, place fillings in teeth that the dentist prepares. This is a rigorous 9 month program. My assistant, Sylvia, went back to school a few years ago to get her training and recently we hired another EFDA. They are an invaluable asset in the busy dental office! EFDA’s are not permitted in every state, but thank God they are allowed in Ohio! I would highly recommended them for your office! Doctors, all your fears of non-patient acceptance or … [Read more...]
The Art of Decluttering: Part II
In the last issue, I told you about the decluttering process I had started, using the Marie Condo’s method called The Art of Decluttering. Marie is the Japanese author that made this process popular on Netflix, in magazines, and in newspapers. My professional organizational coach, Andrea Sharb, Kay and I started the decluttering process with my clothes. We took every piece of clothing I had anywhere in the house and laid them down on my daughter’s bed (she is away in college). I looked at each piece of clothing and asked myself if I “loved it or not.” If not, off it went into the donation … [Read more...]

The Art of Decluttering
I am sure many of you have a “hoarder” somewhere in your life. A parent, grandparent, spouse or friend (surely not you). I never watched the TV show but have heard this is sometimes a serious disorder. So as not to progress into this diagnosis, I have been decluttering for a few years now. To be exact I have been dabbling in decluttering. Well enough was enough. I recently hired a coach, Andrea Sharb, to help me with this process of letting go and developing systems to begin decluttering, giving away, organizing and learning to live with less. I was wasting way too much time looking for … [Read more...]
Take an Active Role in Your Taxes
Recently I explained to my dental students that taxes are a citizen’s biggest yearly expense yet hardly anyone pays attention to how they can minimize this bill. Making sure that you have a competent CPA or service completing your taxes is of course paramount. However, do any of you research or read up on the subject yourself? “I give it to them, they figure it out and tell me what I owe.” This is a BIG MISTAKE, when you do not take an active role in your taxes (i.e. accountant explaining what they did and strategizing over the course of the year etc). I have learned a lot from reading … [Read more...]
What is Holding You Back?
What is holding you back? Fear can be one of those things that can stop us from moving forward in life and in business. WHAT IS STOPPING YOU? From Taking action? From being your Best? What controls and determines the quality of our lives? Why do we do what we do? Answers: Fear stops us from moving forward. It is hard-wired into us. There is nothing that we can do to completely remove it from our thinking, but the key is learning to use fear instead of it using you. Example: I fear leaving my current job or situation because I do not know what the future will … [Read more...]
