What makes a great leader in business?
Many times it seems people complain about their business (I’m in that group too!), but when I realize that it is not the business that needs a shot in the arm, it is I that needs it, I go back and review what makes a great leader in business (and in life). Many times I have failed to “sharpen the saw” in these areas! I suggest that you review these five points and ask yourself,
Am I on top of my game?
You might soon realize that it isn’t your employees, your clients or vendors that need improvement.
- Passionate Communication: To inspire others, you must feel inspired. Are you communicating passion and positivity to your employees and customers? How can they be excited if you are not?
- Connection: Are you connecting to people around you? Your staff? Your customers? When is the last time you did a one-on-one review with employees or sent out a newsletter or communication to your clientele?
- Conviction: Quality of your life, many times, is directly proportional to your ability to deal with uncertainty. When faced with a challenge, do you cower and complain or do you check your core values and attack the problem? Show your conviction and people will follow!
- Be Unreasonable: To achieve lofty goals, sometimes your goals will seem unreasonable! Surround yourself with those that will believe in you and your dreams. Too many times we are surrounded by naysayers and we need to cleanse our lives and businesses of these people!
- Have a vision: Your vision must be larger than yourself – larger than the moment. Leaders embrace what moves them, transforming into clear visions of what they must (rather than “should”) achieve.
